Timber flooring is known to add character to a home while at the same time offering a number of advantages like the ability to clean it with ease and relative quickness, durability and beauty. It offers homeowners an option other than tiling or carpeting and a cross between both their advantages. Timber flooring can be installed through a number of methods, tools and techniques that make the installation process easier. Here we list four general methods in timber flooring installation.
THE FLOATING METHOD
This installation method only works with engineered timber flooring. It allows you to install wooden floors without having to nail them to the actual floorboards of your home. Floating planks lock together often simply snapping together (kind of like puzzle pieces) or are sometimes glued to each other on top of the other flooring material. The floor is engineered to stay in place with the addition of skirting and finishing trims.
THE USE OF ADHESIVES
This installation method works if you already have timber flooring that you’d rather not remove, allowing you to simply install a new layer of timber floors on top of them. This, however, only works with subflooring that is smooth and sound allowing the adhesives to properly hold. It also requires the use of vapour barriers to be a sound installation.
THE STAPLING METHOD
A large floor stapler is required for this installation method helping make the process quicker and relatively easier. With its help, staples are shot from the gun to the floor, securing the timber flooring to a graded plywood subfloor.
THE NAILING DOWN METHOD
The most popular of timber flooring installation, it involves simply nailing planks to a plywood subfloor. This is the simplest of techniques and is quite easy to accomplish. It requires the use of special flooring nails and a flooring mallet that prevents the planks from splitting due to excess vibration.
